Let's waste time
What we love will ruin us.
We love our cellphones and we love the internet. We love the power it gives us. With them, we have the ability to learn Calculus from YouTube, get all the answers to our homework from Yahoo Answers, and talk to a loved one in Madagascar through FaceTime.
Cellphones were created to make our lives easier.
I have an app called Moments that tracks the amount of time you spend on your phone. Over one of the days from spring break, it said I used my phone for 783 minutes. That is 13.05 hours. 13 hours of my life that I will never get back. Was it really worth it? Probably not. I most likely racked up so many hours because I binge watched Gossip Girl on Netflix and aimlessly scrolled through Twitter 7623 times. To be on my phone for 13 hours really isn’t as hard as it seems.
I had promised myself that I would use spring break to study for my ACT but instead I wasted my time.
In today’s modern age, we are obsessed with speed. We want information and we want it fast. The internet and cellphones were created to help us easily complete tedious tasks within seconds. Yet all of the time we have saved is once again used because we waste it on other pointless things. How ironic. Watching random cat videos on YouTube, stalking your crush Facebook, reading posts on how to DIY your kitchen on BuzzFeed all go towards the easy way to waste your time. It uses up all of our precious Time we could’ve spent doing something more productive.
time.
Nice post! I really liked the parallel structure you used at the beginning. I also liked how you ended your post with just the word "time." It really sums up your argument that we use technology more to waste time than to help us with important things.
ReplyDeleteWow this is so great! You are so right. I loved how you criticized an accepted flaw in today's culture. What you said about the app was really interesting. I might download it! Overall wonderful job
ReplyDeleteThis has made me wonder: Why are we obsessed with speed? Is it because we are too busy, or because we are too lazy to wait patiently? Sometimes it is wonderful to slow down and consider all that is around us. This post definitely was insightful for me, and nice job incorporating real examples!
